The company IBM competed in 2011 on Jeopardy! with its artificial intelligence computer named Watson, winning the game in a remarkable display of the power of computer algorithms and machine ability to rival human thinking. Watson competed against renowned Jeopardy! champions Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings.

The show features a quiz competition — contestants are presented general knowledge clues in the form of answers, and must phrase their responses in question form. The original version aired from March 1964 to January 1975. It spawned a weekly edition airing September 1974 to September 1975. The All New Jeopardy! aired October 1978 to March 1979. The newest version premiered September 1984.
The show was first hosted by Art Fleming. Don Pardo served as announcer until 1975, and John Harlan announced the 1978–1979 show. The latest version features Alex Trebek as host and Johnny Gilbert as announcer.
With over 6,000 episodes aired as of May 2011, Jeopardy! has won a record 31 Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. Game Show Network ranked the show no. 2 on its 2006 list of the 50 greatest game shows. TV Guide ranked it no. 1 on its 2013 list of the 60 greatest game shows ever. The game show has a world-wide following with regional adaptations in many foreign countries.
